Do you remember when, or were even around when a pub was a vital social crossover point; it welcomed villagers, strangers, and tourists who just wanted a drink and a chance to catch up or have a chat....

​Beer and cider were the mainstays and as often as not was produced locally. ​The basic nourishment was bar snacks and fresh, hand-held food, often in paper bags!

Strangers were positively encouraged to make new friends.​ It was not a restaurant with a bar in the middle that was all but empty by 9.30 pm.

​

There was no background music because the best sound of all is the sound of the human voice. And most importantly, it was a home-from-home.
