Do you remember when, or were even around when a pub was a vital social crossover point; it welcomed villagers, strangers, and tourists who just wanted a drink and a chance to catch up or have a chat....
Beer and cider were the mainstays and as often as not was produced locally. The basic nourishment was bar snacks and fresh, hand-held food, often in paper bags!
Strangers were positively encouraged to make new friends. It was not a restaurant with a bar in the middle that was all but empty by 9.30 pm.
There was no background music because the best sound of all is the sound of the human voice. And most importantly, it was a home-from-home.
We do remember...
We hope that our spirit of both welcome and community will bring warmth and well-being to both friends and new faces alike.
